Melbourne will be celebrating the Victorian Diwali Festival again in October.

Indian movies will be shown, and Bollywood style dancing will be demonstrated by Jhoom Bollywood, along with more traditional classical and folk dancing, art and craft workshops, will be on offer along with other Indian cultural activities. Live musicians will be performing and Indian food will be plentiful. AFL and cricket stars will be present and the evening will conclude with an impressive display of fireworks.

There will be events during the day to interest the whole family, including circus acts, magic shows and face painting for the children. From the very first festival it has become customary to illuminate important buildings in the community, including Victorian Parliament, the Museum, the Exhibition Building, Federation Square, and the Indian Consulate, and this year will continue that tradition.

The Diwali Festival is organised by Celebrate India which has been holding the event since 2006. Celebrate India is a not-for-profit organisation which was founded to create an understanding and appreciation in the community of Indian culture and customs.

Banner printing, flyers, brochures, and poster printing are likely to be used.

The Festival will be held this Saturday, October 22, from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Federation Square on the corner of Swanston and Flinders Streets. Entry is free and open to all ages.
