Join Women’s Day Fun Run to aid breast cancer

The RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run is expected to draw up to 10,000 women from Chermside, Milton and across Brisbane City.

United in a fight to combat breast cancer, the women will kick off the fun run at South Bank, Brisbane.

According to organisers, it is hoped the highly promoted event will raise $400,000 for Mater Chicks in Pink to put towards vital support services for breast cancer, as well as to fund lifesaving research into breast cancer at the Mater Hospital.

To assist with the cause, RACQ will match the first donation of up to $58 made on February 16 on each personal fundraising page of registered Fun Runners in an effort to help the Mater Chicks in Pink achieve their fundraising goal faster.

Organisers have encouraged supporters to donate directly via personal fundraising pages of entrants.

An event spokesman said participants in the fun run will be able to walk or run the 5km circuit and those seeking to challenge themselves can also take advantage of the inner city 10km loop route, which will follow signs placed along Brisbane River and South Bank.

He said leading music tracks to get people pumped up and ready for the event included ‘Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor and ‘Stronger’ by Kanye West.

Those taking part in the Women’s Day Fun Run on March 5 are encouraged to fundraise with organisers setting a target of $400,000, which is $50,000 more than was raised in 2016.
