Joondalup photo competition calls for wildlife snapshots

February 16, 2015 by

Young Joondalup residents are being invited to share their favourite places around the city as part of a contest run by the council.

The theme for this year’s event is Capture Nature, and entrants are being asked to take photos of their natural surroundings to celebrate World Environment Day.

Youngsters are encouraged to explore their local environment, including the beaches, wetlands and bushland, and take a photo they feel captures the spirit of the city, or photograph wildlife or plant life they think represents Joondalup.

Competition entries must be submitted electronically, but printing services will be used to create an exhibition of the best images that will be displayed at the Lakeside Joondalup shopping centre.

Participants stand a chance of winning up to $300, with cash prizes on offer for the top three pictures. Another cash prize will be awarded to the photo chosen by City of Joondalup council staff as their favourite.

Entries will be judged by a panel, who will consider composition and creativity as well as how relevant the image is to the theme and the meaning of the caption.

Entrants must be between 12 and 18 years old and live or go to school in the City of Joondalup.

Entries close on Friday, May 1st, and the winners will be announced in June. For more information and entry forms, visit the council website.
