Local firms boosted by stadium construction

A Balcatta-based business is among a number of Western Australian companies to contribute to the Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct construction project.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Mia Davies said Floorwise has been awarded a contract worth $24,500 to provide and install flooring in the main operational and technical area of the stadium.

She said it was part of $76m worth of new contracts allocated to companies statewide, with each being given an opportunity to showcase individual expertise, adding:

“The Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct will be a world-class venue and it is being largely built with the expertise of local companies.”

Davies said a vast array of businesses are benefiting from the construction of the stadium, which is not only creating jobs but also providing opportunities to make the most of individual marketing services to further promote local firms.

In all, work on the project has generated 346 new jobs and seen 2,000 existing roles sustained, which the Minister said has spinoff benefits for the whole community.

Local companies, she said, are also reaping rewards from other construction projects including the Swan River pedestrian bridge and the stadium’s own train station.

Davies explained:

“To date, more than 73% of contracts for those projects have been awarded to Western Australian businesses.”

She also confirmed that the stadium is expected to open in time for next year’s AFL season.
