Manchester United fans from Welshpool and throughout the Perth metropolitan area will have a chance to see the team play live when they play at Optus Stadium in July 2019.

After more than 40 years, one of the world’s most famous and successful football clubs will be heading to Perth during its pre-season tour to show locals what its players can do in two matches of play.

The latest news has been welcomed by Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan, who said:

“Manchester United is one of the biggest and most respected sporting clubs in the world, and I look forward to welcoming them to Western Australia next July when they take on rivals Leeds United and our own Perth Glory.”

Perth Glory will take on its famous rivals first in a match scheduled for July 13, 2019 followed on July 17 with a clash between Leeds United and the Red Devils.

Manchester United’s visit Downunder to Perth is expected to be well publicised with not only the usual poster printing but also extensive coverage in the media. The team also has one of the biggest supporter bases in the world with an estimated 659 million fans, thousands of which are expected to head to Perth for the July event.

According to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray, there is a strong rivalry between Leeds United and Manchester United which he hopes will be reignited at Optus Stadium.
