Midnight Oil set to generate heat in Perth

Legendary Australian rock and roll band Midnight Oil will be setting the Perth Arena aglow in October as part of a six-month tour called ‘The Great Circle.’

The band’s worldwide tour kicked off in Sydney before Easter, and will continue to blaze a trail through Brazil, North America and Europe before returning to Australia towards the end of the year.

Midnight Oil, who officially reformed last year, started small with two musicians who knew each other at school in 1972, and were joined over the next few years by another three members. Their first album was released in 1978, but it was not until the mid-80s that they catapulted on to the international music scene with their ‘Diesel and Dust’ album, which featured their biggest global hit ‘Beds are Burning’.

The band’s music has always reflected its attitudes about social justice and the struggles of ordinary people, not only in Australia, but around the world. In more recent years, Midnight Oil has used its iconic status to bring these issues to the world’s notice.

As this is the band’s first tour in 15 years, it is anticipated that there will be plenty of promotional products and souvenir brochures for sale at the Perth concert. More than half of the other concerts around Australia have already sold out, and extra venues in Europe have been added.
