New van needed to help feed local homeless

This week is Homelessness Week, and this year’s theme was ‘Ending homelessness together’.

Matt Harward, Sutherland Shire’s 2018 Citizen of the Year, is working hard to achieve that. Harward is the founder of the local ‘One Meal – It Makes a Difference’ service which provides a home-cooked meal once a week for people in Sutherland Shire who are homeless or living rough. The meal is provided each Sunday, with about 35 people making use of the service.

Sutherland One Meal receives support from various local businesses including Tradies, Shire Foods, Highfields Caringbah, Grind Espresso, Bunnings Caringbah and AllStar Property Group.

Harward is trying to raise money to buy a replacement van for the Sutherland service as the van they are using is old and becoming less reliable. He is looking for a good second-hand vehicle and believes that $25,000 should be sufficient to cover purchase and set-up costs. A better van would allow the group to extend their services.

One Meal was founded in December 2014 when some friends got together to provide a meal for the homeless at Christmas. What was intended as a one-off event has grown into weekly services at 7 different locations throughout the Sydney area.

Charities are often grateful for the assistance of printing services to help them get their message out.
