The search is on for outstanding members of the community who have made a positive contribution to recreation and sport in the City of Whitehorse.

Nominations are now being taken from throughout the City, including Print company in Box Hill South printing services Box Hill South, for the 2016 Whitehorse Sports Award.

The awards programme, according to Councillor Andrew Davenport, provided an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of sporting clubs, volunteers and local sportspeople. He pointed out that the awards showcased achievements to the entire community.

Cr Davenport added that sporting clubs involved a team of people who contributed skills and knowhow in many areas for the benefit of members and, as a result, excellence behind the scenes and at management level will also be recognised as part of the awards.

He urged community members to act quickly to nominate a person they believe has made an outstanding contribution to local sports.

In addition to top Sportsperson of the Year, other categories are Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability, Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Sports Club of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year and finally the School Award.

Nominees must belong to a sporting club, attend school or live within the City of Whitehorse, and their achievements must have been secured between September 2015 and August 2016.

The deadline for submissions, which could be printed on business letterheads for a noticeable, striking effect, is August 26.
