North Lakes State College performs the Wizard of Oz

Rehearsals are well underway and excitement is mounting among the cast and crew of the production of The Wizard of Oz at North Lakes State College.

The school production is not just about singing and dancing. It is a chance for many students to be part of a joint effort and be involved in something completely different to their day-to-day studies.

Students come from a range of year levels (in this case from years four to twelve) and so have the opportunity to meet different students and form new friendships. Apart from the obvious acting, singing and dancing performers, students with graphic design skills are needed to create backdrops and props, art students may be involved with poster printing or logo design, textile students can help with costume design and preparation, and music students are needed for the orchestra. Staff and students spend many hours of out-of-school time rehearsing and creating all the parts of the production.

Putting on a school production also creates opportunities for students to learn new skills, such as in sound and lighting technology, choreography or event management and may open their eyes to possible career pathways.

North Lakes State College production of the Wizard of Oz will be performed in the school stadium on May 30, May 31 and June 1.
