Oates Vic Open Golf to attract some of the biggest names

The City of Greater Geelong is about to present the Oates Vic Open Golf Championships, aiming to bring in golfing champions from both Australia and overseas to compete in a golf tournament.

This will be the fifth year that the championship has been contested on the Bellarine Peninsula in the area surrounding Geelong.

A world-class event, it is the only tournament globally where males and females alike compete on an equal footing for their share of the prize money. Well-known names such as Ian Baker-Finch, Greg Norman and Marianne Skarpnord are some of the previous competitors and winners.

This year, the organisers are boasting the largest number of international star female players who will be competing at the event. Roger Allenby, who won this tournament as an amateur in 1991, which helped to lead to his current status as a professional player, also will be teeing off at the tournament this year.

There will be many other activities offered during the day, as well as food and beverage outlets. Signs are usually placed at strategic points in events like this.

The Oates Vic Open will be held each day from this Thursday to Sunday, February 9 to 12, at the Thirteenth Beach Golf Links on Barwon Heads Road at Barwon Heads. Visitors of all ages are welcome.
