Opportunity to learn about Albanian culture at Footscray festival

The annual Albanian Festival will once again be held near Footscray in mid-December.

Sponsored by the City of Maribyrnong for over 25 years, the festival has traditionally been held at Footscray Park, but this year, for the first time, it will be held at nearby Yarraville.

Traditional Albanian food and drink will be available for purchase, and national music will be performed to entertain visitors. Stalls operated by Albanian community groups and vendors will be located onsite while rides and other amusements will be available for the children. Community groups which present will include the Albanian Women’s Association and those representing fields like radio and soccer.

The festival is traditionally held at this time of the year to acknowledge Albanian Independence, which occurred on November 28, 1912 and is of great significance for Albanians worldwide, It is an opportunity for members of the Albanian community to share their culture with other members of the public who might not otherwise experience it.

It is likely that poster printing and flyers will be made use of to advertise the festival and promotional products may be offered at the stalls. Signs will be in place to direct visitors to the venue.

The Albanian Festival will be held on Sunday, December 11 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Yarraville Gardens and is open to all ages.
