Performers unite for special tribute to Jon English

Fans of performer Jon English, who passed away suddenly on March 9, last year are expected to come out in force when some of Australia’s entertainment icons join together for a special tribute in his honour in Melbourne.

The multi award-winning singer, actor, musician and recording star had been a regular performer at venues in Melbourne and South Melbourne, where he has a huge following.

The list of performers advertised on brochures to appear at the special ‘Six Ribbons-Remember Jon English’ concert reads like a who’s who of Australian entertainment royalty.

Peter Cupples, a musical cohort and long-time friend, will host the evening which will feature musicians and special guest artists, including Ol’55’s Wilbur Wilde, Dave Gleeson from The Angels and the Screaming Jets, The Chantoozies, Wendy Stapleton, Brian Mannix, Lindsay Field from John Farnham’s band, and Lisa Edwards.

English’s manager and long-term partner Coralea Cameron said she put the show together as a special tribute to Jon, his music and his memory.

She said his legacy stretches back to when he first took on the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar in the 1970s, followed by Logie-winning success in television mini-series Against the Wind, his many stage appearances including Pirates of Penzance (in which he excelled as the Pirate King), his `All Together Now’ TV show and his many live performances.

Melbourne’s Arthenaeum Theatre will host the event on March 9 at 7:30 pm.
