Pony club to host 50th birthday event

Riding enthusiasts from Wangara and neighbouring suburbs within the City of Wanneroo, Western Australia, have been invited to take part in a special anniversary event.

The Wanneroo Horse and Pony Club will celebrate 50 years of operation by holding a Show Horse Day at its Wanneroo grounds.

The event, which will offer prizes of rugs and garlands on the day, will include unofficial and official rings and pony club classes.

The organisation has been serving the area’s young riding population since 1965. An active affiliate of Western Australia’s Pony Club Association, it hosts a membership of 70 young riders aged from 6 to 25.

A club spokesperson said surfaces such as the grassed riding areas received a high standard of care. They said that during the past half century, the club had built up an enviable reputation for its high levels of success and involvement in competition, as well as for its support of riders competing in events throughout the state.

They added that a number of Western Australia’s top riders had started their riding careers at the Wanneroo club.

Catalogue printing over the years has helped to keep a record of a few of the club’s previous members who have gone on to achieve top honours.

The 50th anniversary celebrations are due to be held on June 28th.
