Prahran gets new bar

Those who like the idea of fried chicken, cocktails, and friendly bartenders, may wish to check out a new bar in Prahran’s south side.

The owners of the new ‘Whaler Bar’, Robbie Alexander and Louise Astell, decided on the name of their new bar based on the idea of patrons having “a whale of a time”.

Apart from being a graphic design graduate, Alexander also has extensive experience in the hospitality industry. He also explained that he has felt a strong attraction towards bartending and could never shake of the “bad habit”. According to Alexander, he wanted to recreate the bar experiences he discovered overseas for his customers, which had an added personal touch. He adds that those who visit can expect to find bartenders who remember their favourite cocktail, and perhaps even their dog’s name.

Whaler Bar’s manager Callum Davies exemplifies this focus on detail and personal service, with 120 cocktails committed to his memory after working at other bars such as Carlton Club and Madame Brussels. Alexander and Davies have collaboratively created 10 of Whaler Bar’s house cocktails, whereas head chef Henry-Leigh-Smith has prepared a menu of Southern American cuisine with a twist.

Those who drop by new bars and have a particularly good time may want to grab some business cards and share their favourite spots with family and friends.
