Public invited to 50s style pool parties

A dip in the local pool is about to get more interesting for Fortitude Valley and the wider Brisbane City area residents with the introduction of retro-themed pool parties.

The specialised theming is the idea of David Bostock who was previously at the helm of the Boundary St Markets in Brisbane’s West End.

In his latest venture, Mr Bostock is combining his love for food, the jukebox sound of the 50s and people’s love for the water into a fortnightly pool party spread between Yeronga Park Swimming Pool and Dunlop Park Memorial Swimming Pool in Corinda.

“After the Boundary St Markets this was an opportunity for me to come back with food trucks but do something different.

“I’m impressed by summer – number one – and by the old-style 40s and 50s pool parties. I’m calling it an `activation’ rather than an event or a market.”

Mr Bostock said people already travelled from throughout Brisbane to swim and train at the two pools and putting on the retro-themed party events was an added incentive.

Widely promoted on flyer printing, the pool parties will also provide an opportunity to those attending to support a local person with cancer.

Alternating between Corinda and Yeronga pools, the pool parties will be held fortnightly at each venue until late March 2018 with the party atmosphere to be enjoyed between 3 and 7pm and food available from 4 to 8pm.
