Randwick Library announces Sydney Writers’ Festival guest

May 6, 2017 by

Author Zoe Morrison, whose debut novel ‘Music and Freedom’ won the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction in 2016, will be appearing at the Margaret Martin Library in Randwick during the Sydney Writers’ Festival.

Born in NSW, Morrison grew up in Adelaide where she studied music. She later received her doctorate from Oxford University, for studying the effects of violence and social exclusion. Her novel utilises these aspects of her studies, as well as the healing power of music.

‘Music and Freedom’ also received a commendation in the Victorian Premier’s Award for an Unpublished Manuscript. Miss Morrison’s appearance will no doubt be one of the highlights of the Sydney Writers’ Festival. The festival also promises to be good for local printing companies, with booklet printing, posters, signs and flyers advertising the various events.

The Margaret Martin Library is one of three that fall under the banner of Randwick City Library, and is located in the Royal Randwick Shopping Centre in the middle of Randwick. It holds a collection of over 40,000 books, magazines and media items.

The discussion with Zoe Morrison will be held on Thursday, May 25 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Entrance is free, but advance booking online is recommended. Copies of ‘Music and Freedom’ will be on sale at the event.
