Fortitude Valley residents have been busy voting for their favourite images in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Green Heart Photography Competition.

The competition, which attracted 189 entries this year, is held to find and reward the creative talents of the photographers in the city while also celebrating its many attributes when it comes to being sustainable, green and clean, according to Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.

“We had a great response with a high calibre of submissions as part of this year’s competition, and now it’s up to the public to vote for their favourite image from a selection of 30 finalists.”

Lord Mayor Quirk said entrants followed a brief that required them to capture an image that would inspire visitors and residents to both enhance and protect the natural environment of Brisbane by sustainable choices made daily.

Details listed online and via flyer printing to promote the event said entries were open in three categories: Open, Secondary school and Primary school.

The announcement of award winners will take place on October 27 followed by an exhibition of finalist’s images.

The Brisbane Botanic Gardens will host the roaming gallery from November 6 to 17, The Pod Brunswick Street Mall November 18 to 27, Karawatha Forest Park and Discovery Centre November 28 to December 19, Brisbane Square Library December 20 to February 2 and Fortitude Valley February 2 to 26.
