Search on for junior sports stars

Bunbury sports clubs and other associations are being urged to nominate outstanding athletes for the 2017 Myles Junior Sports Star of the Year award.

Since 1966, the coveted award has been held annually to recognise a young achiever who has make a contribution to the sporting arena through umpiring, coaching or general promotion of an individual sport, and also represented themselves extremely well in the public sphere.

In addition, International, National and State level sporting achievements will also be taken into account as well as the commitment and dedication required to attain such a high level of excellence.

To be eligible nominees must be aged 13 to 18 and either live in Bunbury or belong to an association or club from the area.

Only clubs or associations are able to nominate athletes whose achievements must have been recorded in the 12-month period from July 1st, 2016 to June 30th, 2017.

Mayor Gary Brennan paid tribute to the awards and said they provide a great opportunity to recognise some of the area’s talented young athletes.

While media such as newsletter printing at many clubs and associations often highlights individuals’ achievements, the Myles Junior Sports Star of the Year reaches a wider audience, which the Mayor applauded.

Thursday, August 31st at 5:00 pm is the deadline for nominations, with winners to be announced later in the year.
