Springvale to become a winter wonderland

Springvale will become a destination for all those who enjoy a little fun in the snow during the 2017 staging of Snow Fest.

The corner of Balmoral and Buckingham avenues will be the drop-off point for in excess of 80 tonnes of the snowy white substance being trucked in from Mt Buller just for the event.

Greater Dandenong Mayor Jim Merneti said the festival, now into its fifth year, was one of the City’s most popular, and annually attracts about 40,000 people.

During its run, the popular festival, he said, had won several highly-regarded awards, including Victoria’s best tourism event – a title it can advertise proudly on local tourism brochures and postcards. He added:

“This festival allows people to experience all the fun of the snow without having to leave Melbourne.

“It is a sight to behold to see Springvale transformed into a winter wonderland.”

The Mayor said the event provides something for everything, including free family entertainment, free snow play areas and rides that start from just $2.

Three-to-six-year-olds will also be able to learn how to snowboard while live performances ranging from dance, live music and magic acts, to a heat of the FreeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands competition, will be featured on two stages.

Giant penguin puppets, polar bears and snow angel performers will also be roaming around through the crowds at the event, which will be held this Sunday, July 30, from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
