Suburb near Epping is celebrated

Coburg, a suburb in the vicinity of Epping, is being showcased in a book.

The Coburg Plan is a project that highlights the quality of Melbourne’s changing architecture. Suburbs like Epping can get a lift when positive aspects of the culture of the city are highlighted. Jessie Scott documented Coburg with a camera over a considerable time period. Printing services can be useful for promotional purposes within the creative industries.

Crowdfunding has been employed to support the project. Thousands of dollars have been raised to assist with any costs related to distribution. Scott told Architecture AU:

“It’s a moment to contemplate as a community – what we want to happen to our suburb, and whether we can intervene in that process as well. That’s what I want to draw attention to.”

This positive vision means that the venture is not simply an exercise in nostalgia. However, when the launch takes place in late July, some residents may want to think about the way things used to be. Gentrification has had a significant impact on the suburb.

Different types of writing have been used to add colour to the book. Prose fiction rubs shoulders with poetry, while essays get a look in too. Timmah Ball, an urban researcher with a creative side, has contributed a prose poem to the collection. Kylie Weise, a curator, has stepped up to the plate by producing an essay on art history.
