Synthetic sports field to boost Northern Beaches facilities

Brookvale sports enthusiasts will be among many to benefit from the introduction of second synthetic sports field at one of the Northern Beaches’ most highly prized sporting venues.

Mayor of Northern Beaches Council Michael Regan said Field 2 at Cramer Park will host the facility, which is being established to meet a growing demand for additional sporting facilities in the area. He added:

“With one synthetic sports field already located at Cromer, the installation of an additional FIFA certified pitch will provide sporting groups on the Northern Beaches with a first class facility while increasing sporting capacity on the Northern Beaches.”

The synthetic sports field, when complete, will bring the total available in the area to five, with others located at Narrabeen Sports High School, Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields and Cromer Field 1.

According to the Mayor, since the project’s outset, the sports field’s design had incorporated a sustainable approach which included the identification of recycling and reuse opportunities.

For example, he said, the valuable resource of surplus topsoil will be reused for surface improvements to sports fields at Reub Hudson Reserve, Cromer, and St Matthews Farm Reserve.

Brochure printing on the topic of sports fields of this nature has also revealed that less maintenance is required for synthetic fields, including no fertiliser, water or mowing.

The work of establishing the new synthetic field has been assigned to specialist Polytan Asia-Pacific, with completion expected in 2018.
