The 2016 winners of the new Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Business Awards will be acknowledged and celebrated at a gala dinner later this year.

Award finalists, who were recently applauded at the Chamber’s final breakfast for 2016, include Quantum Recycling Solutions, Hugh Murray and Sons and the Cabrini Linen Service.

Chamber President Paul Broom said members were looking forward to celebrating the achievements of the locally based businesses at a gala dinner in November.

Operations manager of Hugh Murray and Sons, Adrian Norton-Jones said the company was first established in 1903 at Buln Buln but moved to Dandenong, Victoria in 1915 to take advantage of the rail line which enabled the harrows, the only product listed on their catalogues, to be taken over the border to New South Wales .

The not-for-profit Cabrini Linen Service (CLS) originally operated out of Melbourne’s Cabrini Hospital basement and then East Hawthorn before eventually opening up in Dandenong South in 2013.

The service specialises in laundry and linen services to the State’s hospitality, aged care and healthcare industries.

Managing Director Ralf Petz said the organisation’s mission is to assist Dandenong’s new migrants as well as at-risk youths and high unemployment.

Since relocating to the area the business, he said, has doubled its turnover, provided employment for 130 people and had boosted the amount of linen it handles to 200 tonnes.

The Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Business Awards gala night will be held on November 30.
