Warne set to bowl them over as King of Moomba

March 3, 2015 by

Former cricket star Shane Warne and Bollywood actress Pallavi Sharda have been crowned the 2015 Moomba King and Queen.

The ambassadors will headline a huge program of events at this year’s Moomba Festival in Melbourne, Victoria.

The annual celebration, which began in 1955 and has developed into the largest community festival in Australia, is set to be bigger and better in 2015, according to organisers.

As in previous years, a full programme of events is scheduled to take place on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River over the Labour Day weekend, including activities and free entertainment.

In addition to the iconic Yarra River, festival precincts will also include The Green, Skate Park, Kids Zone and Main Arena.

A host of carnival rides will be available for kids as well as BMX, skate and scoot clinics at the Skate Park, while back at the river the focus will be on elite athletes doing battle for top honours at the Moomba Masters Championships.

The festival’s newest venue, The Green, will showcase emerging bands, while iconic events such as the Moomba Parade and Birdman Rally will once again be featured.

The Moomba Parade will take place on March 9th from 11am and will move north along St. Kilda Road, with barricades erected for easy identification of the route.

Other special activities and events – including food stalls, free shows and entertainment – will be featured on flyer and poster printing for distribution throughout the Moomba celebration precinct. The festival will be held from March 6th to 9th.
