Winery to celebrate 180th birthday with a picnic

March 4, 2017 by

Houghton Wines, just a few kilometres down the road from Midland, will be marking its 180th birthday this year with a picnic open to all.

Wines will be available for purchase at the cellar door and live musical performances will be present. Each attendee over the age of 18 with a ticket will be presented with a picnic pack made for the 180th anniversary, on the house. The pack will include a towel, wine glasses for use outdoors and a bottle of Houghton white wine.

The café will be providing food for purchase, or there will be a variety of picnic hampers for sale, including a box of food prepared specifically to cater for children. Alternatively, attendees can take along their own picnic for their own consumption.

Founded in 1836, only four years after Western Australia itself was declared a colony, Houghton Wines is now recognised as one of the oldest and largest wineries in Australia. This kind of event will be likely to use catalogues and business cards to ensure a lively presence.

Houghton Wines birthday picnic will be open to all visitors from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm next Saturday, March 11 at 148 Dale Road in Middle Swan. Attendance is free but booking is essential and attendees must be over 18 years old to purchase or consume alcohol.
