World music treat in store for Richmond

October 4, 2017 by

Residents of Richmond will soon hear unique interpretations of traditional Balkan music, played by Saray Iluminado, a group of talented musicians.

Brought together by a mutual love of folk and Gypsy music, these Melbourne musicians began playing together in 2013. Specialising in Sevdah and Sephardic music from Eastern Europe and the Middle East, they have played various venues and festivals such as the Caravan Club in Oakleigh, the annual Darebin Music Feast and Tasmania’s Cygnet Folk Festival. They have also performed at the Balkan Embassy in Canberra.

The five-piece group will perform at the Richmond Theatrette with folk music from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Klezmer, Sephardic and Gypsy music from the Balkans.

The Richmond Theatrette is an ideal venue for Saray Iluminado’s concert. Its intimate setting, with seating for 80 patrons, is available for hire from the Richmond Library. It can be used for corporate events as well as small concerts of this kind. Local print shops are nearby, ready to provide the necessary printing services and corporate gifts to support any event taking place at the venue.

The Saray Iluminado concert will take place on Thursday, October 12, from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Richmond Theatrette at the Richmond Library, 415 Church Street, Richmond. Entrance is free but booking is essential through the Eventbrite website.
