Zoning change for Epping

Epping Central is set for another boost with news that new zoning has been approved.

The Victorian State Government has agreed to rezone the area that has been earmarked as a major spot for rejuvenation over the coming years.

The area has been chosen as a Metropolitan Activity Centre by the state government due to its current facilities, amount of land available for development, and ease of access to public transport.

Major projects in the pipeline include a new Costco and improvements to the Pacific Epping shopping centre.

The City of Whittlesea’s mayor, Cllr Ricky Kirkham, has said that the zoning changes would give the go-ahead for about $250m–worth of private development and create numerous jobs. He commented:

“Coupled with the affordable land in the area, these planning controls will give Epping Central the boost it needs to establish itself as an economic powerhouse of the north/as a dynamic activity centre for jobs, housing and services in Melbourne’s north.”

Developers could use brochure printers to create an information package with details of plans and budgets for potential investors as they bid to create new residential and business opportunities.

Councillor Kirkham said there were a minimum of 11 sites ready for development that would be helped by new zoning plans.

More information about the project can also be found on the Epping Centre Facebook page.
